With a mythical ETTR exposure mode, the sun gets larger and larger in frame until it takes up so many pixels that it alone exceeds the set 'don't blow more than so many pixels' threshold.

The camera is abruptly unable to find a working exposure per the defined exposure mode, and refuses to take a picture.

Or takes a black frame with a white sun, maybe, as it's best guess.

amolitorhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15743439184763617516noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-654754338632526091.post-74365327136360843952015-11-07T12:06:18.146-08:002015-11-07T12:06:18.146-08:00"What happens when the sun is in frame, and y..."What happens when the sun is in frame, and you zoom to a longer focal length?"

I don't know, and now I'm afraid to try.MikeRhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15230112561510206950noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-654754338632526091.post-91949253730138397312015-11-06T21:40:48.660-08:002015-11-06T21:40:48.660-08:00That is not quite it, no.That is not quite it, no.amolitorhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15743439184763617516noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-654754338632526091.post-27780448432933797892015-11-06T19:26:03.500-08:002015-11-06T19:26:03.500-08:00Doesn't ETTR just mean that one should try not...Doesn't ETTR just mean that one should try not to blow out the highlights in digital images? And isn't that what everyone does, or should attempt to do with correct exposure, anyway?
cfwnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-654754338632526091.post-54675103790214021122015-11-06T18:23:02.400-08:002015-11-06T18:23:02.400-08:00The usual proposed idea for an ETTR exposure mode ...The usual proposed idea for an ETTR exposure mode is to program the camera to expose so that no more than such and such many pixels blow out.

What happens when the sun is in frame, and you zoom to a longer focal length?
amolitorhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15743439184763617516noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-654754338632526091.post-50238634150968475482015-11-06T18:16:45.062-08:002015-11-06T18:16:45.062-08:00I'm puzzled. So, go, set up your ettr thing on some scene, then fiddle with the iso to get the same exposure, but with standard matrix metering, pull up the exposure in post and just Look. Can you see the difference? Is it important? If so, ok! If not, which is most assuredly the case with today's cameras, stop worrying about it.Abhishek Cherathhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13831477526772025601noreply@blogger.com
